Those of you who follow our listings know we just love these old French treasures, and the ones that have architectural and monument scenes are just extra fun. Great souvenirs! This one, a souvenir some fortunate someone bought in 1889 at the Paris Expo - yup, the one where the Eiffel Tower was the brand new and very controversial attraction. The scene on top of this pristine old Palais Royal type souvenir inkwell & pen stand is of the Trocadero, which is directly across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. You almost get the feeling the artist painted this little painting on the backside of glass while atop the new tower, don't you. The small image at the base is, I think, the Arch de Triomphe, though it might be the arch that is nearer the Louvre. I can't tell for certain. Great condition, and great appeal. Perfect for your own souvenir!
Very good to excellent condition, with just one flaw to note and it's a very innocuous little glob of solder on one ormolu feather, shown in pics. Otherwise - magnifique!
