Beautiful Pietra Dura Mosaic Plaque of Two Horses

This is quite a lovely creation that appeals whether you are a horse enthusiast or not. The workmanship is quite nice, and the details, right down to the hanging rein, are well-executed. All the tessera are present, but the marble border was slightly damaged in shipping. It does not affect the plaque itself, which should be framed very simply. I would prefer a dark wood frame, but of course that is a matter of personal preference. Pietra Dura is inlaying of the surface with semiprecious stones that are cut, fitted and polished to create various designs. Pietra Dura was also practiced in the last century in Italy (pietre dure). Semiprecious stones like Lapiz Lazuli, Agate, Malachite etc. are used to inlay the marble with the designs. The quality of the micro mosaic work speaks for itself. Only semi-precious stones are used for inlaying the plain marble surface for designs! This is quite a nice piece. Each teressae is smooth and polished with a glassine touch to the surface of the piece. The size is 9 inches by 12 inches (22cm by 30cms).
