Early German papier mache so-called Milliner's Model doll with desirable Apollo Knot beehive hairstyle, 6-3/4" tall, circa 1830. Excellent early dolls house size or cabinet size doll.

Papier mache shoulder head is in outstanding condition with high beehive hairdo known by collectors as the "Apollo Knot" and with clusters of curls over the ears at the sides of the head, with brush-strokes at the side to represent wispy curls or tendrils. Facial features are painted and include blue eyes, with black lash lines, and rose painted lips.

Shoulder head has only one minor surface crack on the back plate that is very fine and barely noticeable. There is minor wear to the hair paint, but otherwise the head is in outstanding condition with no issues and absolutely no touch-ups or repaint. Doll retains it's early glass bead necklace as shown.

Original kid body is in outstanding original condition, with blue paper arm and leg bands, and wooden limbs with red painted slippers. The leather upper left arm has a minor line that may be a crack beginning, but it does not go through to the sawdust filling and there is no leak or repair. The arm is solid and does not open up when moved. The leather on the entire body is smooth and supple and there were no leaks or repairs found.

The doll comes with cotton slip and leg coverings that her previous owner made for her.

These dolls are very seldom found in sizes smaller than 9" tall and especially in this outstanding original condition.

Item ID: PM-JA707
