Toiletry sets in the Victorian Era were a necessity without running water and plumbing. Homer Laughlin Toiletries often included more than chamber pots, basins (bowls), and pitchers but also included mugs / cups, mouth ewers, and vases. The lavatory area was made pretty by decorated porcelain sets. This small pitcher or large mug was most likely used for a brush holder (for toothbrushes). The Laughlin stamp on the bottom indicates that it was manufactured Pre- 1910. This elaborate shape by Laughlin; the Mingo Shape, offered many patterns including this elegant gold spattered trim and filigree design. The Mingo Shape has distinctly ornate handles, an embossed scrolling design, and is scalloped around the top and bottom edges. A beautiful bath (bathroom) piece, this Brush Mug is in Very Good to Excellent Condition. No chips, cracks, breaks, but there is the common crazing with very minor staining. The mug measures 4 1/2" tall.
