This globe is in superb condition with absolutely no damage other than the usual, expected light rim scuffs from use. NO cracks, chips or flakes! The bulls eye has no surface scuffs or other damage.
This globe is 5-1/2 inches tall. Including the rim edges, the top rim diameter is 2-1/4 inches and the bottom rim diameter is 2-3/4 inches. The bulls-eye is approximately 2 inches across. There are no maker’s marks anywhere but it almost certainly will fit several models of Dietz lanterns and probably other manufacturers as well.
Interestingly, the red half of this globe is flashed – colored with a heat process that permanently adheres the color to the clear glass underneath. There are several smears of red flashing color on the clear glass, where they don’t belong, but this adds character. When the lantern was lit, the red half would have been positioned to show from the rear, while the bullseye on the front concentrated the light to brighten the road ahead.
A very nice addition to any good collection of horse drawn vehicle lighting, this would be right at home in a grouping of carriage driving or farm equipment antiques.
