WE CAN SUPPLY MORE PHOTOS - just ask!! This is a FABULOUS, PERFECT CONDITION Delinieres (D&Co.) hand painted waterlily plate - 19th Century
French Limoges porcelain! This plate,
which is shaped like a waterlily pad, is 8-1/2 inches across. The large flower at the bottom, the
bud and their stems are actually molded in a three dimensional, raised "bas relief" giving them the look of a "sculpture." The floral design is entirely hand painted
by an artist who knew how to capture the magic of a water lily! My scans just can’t capture the
delicate beauty of this elegant work - which apparently is typical of D & Co. at that time.
According to my book on Limoges porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston, the green underglaze
backmark with an underline is “Mark No. 2” and dates this plate between 1879 and 1893, well
before the 1900 succession of the D & Co. business into Bernardaud & Co. Also backmarked on
the plate is what must be a letter “K” painted near the edge of the plate - the artist’s initial? This
plate belonged to my great aunt who took meticulous care of it. I can find absolutely no damage
of any kind. The only “flaw” is an inconsequential manufacturing defect above the backmark (shown clearly in the
scan) where apparently a kiln stand supported the plate during firing and left a tiny indentation
inside a small circle of glaze-less area. This has not affected the front of the plate in any way
whatsoever; it appears to have been done when the plate was made and simply has aged. What an exquisite addition to a collection of someone who appreciates Limoges, France porcelain china art.
